Inquiry

What to do?

Have you ever received an invitation to a party that says, "No gifts"? And then when you get there find that there are not only gifts, but a designated table to hold them?

And what if you have a previous commitment and cannot attend? Do you send a non gift anyway?

If I get an invitation that says, "No Gifts," I take them at their word. Whether I went to the party or stayed home, I would probably give or send them a nice card and wish them well and leave it at that. I wouldn't feel bad about showing up empty handed if the invitation specifically states "No Gifts."
