How did you meet?

See these nice looking guys? Larry is on the left, and David is on the right. You've all heard me talk about how thankful I am for my family, but have you heard how Larry and I met, back in 1978?

We lived in the same apartment complex at the time, and had a nodding aquaintance, as we both left for work around the same time each morning. One lovely June morning I went out to my car as usual, to leave for work. This handsome young man nodded "good morning," and then did a double take. "Did you know you have a flat tire?" he asked.

It was on the passenger side, and I had no idea. "Here, I'll change it for you," he said. It turned out to be a much bigger project than he anticipated. It was an unusual make of car (International Harvester) and required an odd size of lug wrench, which he had to borrow from someone. After he was finished I said, "I'd like to do something for you in return. I sew, is there anything you need to have mended?" A few days later he gave me his jeans to patch, and the rest, as they say, is history. Two years later we got married, and have been enjoying each others company ever since.

How did you meet your spouse or best friend? I'd love to hear about it!

This is a very sweet story, Diana. I enjoyed reading this. I met my husband at college in 1980. We were introduced to each other through a friend we had in common. We realized we also had a class together and then started dating.

Thank you for sharing your story with me, Daisy. If you don't mind me asking, what college did you go to?

We went to Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Daisy, my younger sister met her husband (of 23 years)at Bowling Green, too!

Jodie, I always thought of it as the tire that brought us together, but the sewing may have played a part as well. :>} I'd love to hear how you and Mr. Ric-Rac met.

That's a lovely story!
I met the Hub when I had to alter a Costume for him in a show when I was Costume Mistress! Afterwards he helped carry my double bass in and out of the Orchestra pit, as I doubled up as past of the Band!
And to make you really laugh, when Dilly was born we were in the middle of another show and I was thrown out of the hospital for cluttering up the ward with Medieval Costumes! Then Dilly was stashed in a basket backstage (5days old)while the show went on- if she fussed whoever was passing rocked her!

Hey Diana, that's wonderful... so if your tire hadn't gone flat, you might never have met...

Hmmmm, you may have to ask Larry what he was up to at 03:00 a.m. the night before, out letting the air of that tire, and then happened to be there when you came out in the morning.... if you both lived in the same apartment complex, he may have had his eye on you for a while !

So, marriage resulting from a flat tire... pretty good story.

I like to tell people that I met la Grenouille because of an apartment in Paris with broken heating and a broken toilet. Because I couldn't take anymore I moved to a new lodging, and in the new place quickly met people who became friends, and on a trip back to see them a few years later, I met her at a party one of the friends had organized. And it was the night before I was flying back home to the US... but I had gotten her phone number and address, I started sending her some letters, and one thing led to another, 18 years later, here I am in France...

Hi Diana,

I loved hearing how you met Larry what a wonderful way to meet and the photo you shared is beautiful.

I love the way good things can come from things that seem bad. Like poor living conditions forcing Owen to relocate which led to meeting Anne. Thanks for sharing, Owen!

Tine, Owen (my cousin) and I shared a grandmother, and she met our grandfather the same way you and Charles met. He was one of her professors in college. I love these stories!

Suzanne, thank you, I think it's a great picture of David and Larry, too. Daniel wasn't in that picture, but he's an important part of our family, too. :>} I would love to hear how you and Allan met.

What a lovely story Diana!

Mr Locket and I got together because of green ex-army combat trousers!

By chance my final year exams at Uni finished two full weeks before my flat mates. I therefore had two options:
1. laze about the flat every day basking in my new freedom and risking the wrath and hatred of my lovely and overworked flatmates
or
2. Get out and do something for the few weeks before graduation and my family's upcoming holiday in Italy.

Understandably I chose the latter option.

As I had done a degree in Ancient History, I decided to go and help on a local archaeological dig.

Now, when I had volunteered on a dig in York, aged about 16, EVERYONE wore ex-army green combat trousers. So, in anticipation of my new challenge, I went back to my parents' house and borrowed some of these trousers from my big brother (who also wore them for his job as a country park warden).

I then turned up at the site on the Monday morning, duly kitted out in my green trousers, to find that everybody (and I really mean EVERYBODY) was wearing jeans!

Boy, did I feel like a fool?!

Then, half way through the morning this lovely looking man arrived wearing...............

guess what?

Yup! Green, ex-army, combat trousers!!!

So why was he late?

Because he had been "cycling to work when he lost one of his boots"!!!!!!

What I didn't realise at the time was that he wasn't actually wearing these boots at the time - which makes it slightly less bizarre that he had managed to lose one on the way - but it was still such a funny story AND he was wearing these very special trousers that stopped me from feeling stupid and the rest is history (or archaeology?!?!)

Hey, Diana! OK, true story. We were working at the same newspaper and began regularly exchanging comments, and then one Sunday ENTIRELY BY ACCIDENT we ended up coincidentally at the bar where the band with somebody else we knew from work was playing. Sheer coincidence. Thirty years ago next March.
