Mail Call

We had a cake at work this week to celebrate the ten and twenty year anniversaries of six employees. The gal who baked and decorated the cake used to work with us, and knows us well. She put our faces on the cake! I'm a receptionist and spend a lot of time on the phone, so this is her picture of me. Funny!I'm making progress with the aprons. It's been fun thinking of my blogger buddies while making them. I'm heading for the post office today with the ones that are finished. I still need to get an address for Heckety and Lady Hopwood. One of my friends at work has been having one crisis after another. I hope this will make her smile when I give it to her for her birthday next week.

I might have to make one for David next. Yesterday morning our cars were encased in ice when we were leaving for work. The latch on his door broke when he tried to open it. AAK!

I have answered yes to all of these questions, and I had an idea. Aprons! I am going to make aprons for my blogger buddies. These are not fancy aprons, they are the kind to wear in the kitchen when you are baking for fun, or cooking because your family has to eat even though you'd rather be playing. They're the kind to spill things on, throw in the washing machine, and then spill something else on.
Just leave me a comment letting me know if you have use for an apron, and what fabric appeals to you. I will make several, but not more than ten!

The best thing. . .

about a beautiful day in March, is that we have the whole lovely spring and summer in front of us. Yes, rain and snow are in the forecast for the next few days, but oh my! Today was the most gorgeous day, with lots of sunshine, blue sky, and singing birds. I had a day off, and we took my mom for a wheelchair walk outside, which she enjoyed as much as we did.

I'm going to hang the pansy wall hanging on the wall at work. I'm a bit disappointed in the hand quilting in the blue background. I carefully stitched eight big butterflies in matching thread, and somehow they just make it look wrinkled. Oh well, I know they are butterflies, and the overall effect is flowers blooming in spring, which was the whole idea.

A hat is born.

I finished Larry's hat! Just in time for spring - LOL. I'm going to plant some more pansies.
I'm deciding on their layout, these aren't stitched on yet.

I did finally hem the previously mentioned pants. It took half an hour to clear the sewing table and ten minutes to measure, cut, and hem the pants. ;0)

Goodbye, snow!

People who drive a snow plow for a living are generally paid by the job, rather than by the hour. Thus they go fast, often taking out mailboxes as they fly by.
One morning I saw this enormous machine slowly and carefully plowing, without the usual burst of speed, and given the care being taken, was not at all surprised to see a woman driving it. Larry measured the plow blade - it is fifteen feet across.

For now the snow is all gone!! On Thursday it was 71 degrees F with delightful sunshine. Friday was another warm and sunny day, and then today's rain finally washed away the last of the snow. At least for now. :>} I don't think we've ever had a snow free April, but this makes a nice change. The roads are a good two feet wider than when they're lined with snow piles.
I have Larry's hat about half finished. Next I'm planning to make a pink pig. ;0)
I have been the most terrible procrastinator today. I have had a pair of pants to hem for a co-worker for TWO WEEKS, and still haven't gotten myself in gear to do it. There is nothing difficult about it, it won't take long, and she is one of the nicest people in the world, so what is wrong with me??

Another Useful Object

Isn't this funny? It just looks like a toy. It's really a door stop - I filled it with unpopped popcorn to make it heavy. My new knitting craze has yielded seven snowmen and one black cat. Next I'm going to try making a hat for Larry. :>}

Every once in a while. . .

I like to make something useful. Not often, mind you as I specialize in the frivolous and useless.

Our computer came with a cover. As you can see in the bottom photo, it needed to be replaced.
Our charming cat sits on the nice warm keyboard as soon as we finish using it. He'll like the new cover for napping on.
